Acta – Agricultural technical institutes
Phytosanitary products, biocontrol, equipment etc., API-AGRO increases the potential of ACTA’s reference data by making them available on its platform.
ACTA, which brings together France’s agricultural technical institutes, publishes and distributes agricultural reference works. In order to offer levers for innovation in the various sectors, ACTA has decided to expose databases from three sets of reference data on the API-Agro platform:
- ACTA’s Index Phytosanitaire, its flagship publication since 1961, which lists the plant protection products and biocides authorised and marketed in France.
- ACTA’s Index Biocontrôle, which includes all biocontrol products (including macro-organisms) and examples of practical use.
- Tractoguide, co-edited with the Chambers of Agriculture (APCA), which lists the technical characteristics of tractors and other self-propelled vehicles offered on the French market.
Principally, for the organisation it is a way of drawing value from data which is collected and regularly updated from multiple sources.
“Making these datasets available on the API-AGRO platform allows us to introduce a new, more sustainable, business model for this material,” explains Samy Aït-Amar.
The digitalization of data expands the potential of users to software publishers and research and development partners.
For the ACTA Index, already available in digital format via the ‘Index Acta by SMAG’ application, exposure on the platform will eventually make the plant health product references available in API form, while ensuring respect for the ownership of these data.
“API-Agro should allow us to create a virtuous circle by optimizing the resourcing of data: each contributor would only have to enter their data once to make them accessible to a multitude of users”
Edwige Charbonnier, ACTA manager for the exploitation of plant health data
Increased visibility, enrichment and updating of facilitated datasets and then, in the future, monetization of customized databases: the exposition of ACTA reference datasets on the API-Agro platform offers prospects for technological development responding to the challenges of efficient and responsible agriculture.
